Approximately one third of the world population is between 10-24 years of age, and four out of five young people living in poor and developing countries, a figure that is expected to increase to 87% by 2020. In many countries, most young people are sexually experienced at the age of 20 and premarital and consensual sex is common among 15-19 years-olds.
Although the total world population living with HIV / AIDS seems to be declining, but rates of sexually transmitted infections / diseases (STDs / STI) among young people is enormous: one third of the 340 million new sexually transmitted diseases / STI each year occur among people under 25 years of age. They are particularly vulnerable and neglected, they come under the jurisdiction of the state program only once you are pregnant, most of them are out of school, and even education and health service programs of the school or child health, reproductive health and nutrition services. At the family level too, the girls are very sensitive:. Male child preference is widespread, resulting in gender inequality in health care, food intake, school attendance and labor contribution of children from an early age
of gender inequality and unequal power in sexual relations leads to a sexual double standard that has alarming implications for men and women the ability to prevent the sexual transmission of HIV. Bangladesh is, male-dominated society and violence against girls and women remains a problem. Unequal power relations between women and men, for example, can bring the girls or women are especially vulnerable to coerced or unwanted sex, and can also affect the ability of girls and women to influence when, where and how to get sex. "Recent surveys initiated by Rainbow Nari o Shishu Kallayan Foundation showed that about one third of young women (15-25 years) has not heard of HIV / AIDS with poor knowledge of how to protect themselves from AIDS / STIs.
